Why would someone want to install a client OS from a thumb drive instead of a DVDROM or over the network? One reason: Performance. Installing Windows Vista from a high speed USB flash drive is in my experience the easiest & fastest way to complete a Windows Vista install. This is much faster than using a DVD, gigabit ethernet, or possibly even some external USB 2.0 hard drives, due to differences in access speed & transfer rate. To put this into perspective, y'know how installing Windows on a Virtual PC virtual machine from an .ISO CD image is really, really, really fast? Imagine something roughly just as fast, except for doing installations of the OS on to actual workstations. |

Designer Vijay (of fame) jailbroke his iPhone and loaded it up with apps. The five-screen setup (with custom wallpaper) was so impressive, we had to show it off here. Vijay says he jailbroke the iPhone 2.1 software using QuickPwn, and runs down his favorite apps: iTunes Remote, Nemus Sync, Cycorder, Facebook, VoiceNotes, Fring, Youtube, Wifi Toggle, SMS, Snapture, Phone and iGolf. (Careful with this guy, I threw my iPhone a couple of times playing this one: top score = 611 yards :} ) |

Web site Vanishd hides your inappropriate web browsing by overlaying a legitimate page on top of the site you actually want to browse. Once its started, a small window follows your mouse that looks through the top page and into the page you actually want to browse. You can adjust the size of this window with your mouse's scrollwheel, and switch the control between moving the window and interacting with the site. You can even choose what you want the document on top to look like, and fake Word, Excel, and PowerPoint templates are available. If you stick with a web site on top, you can even interact with both layers. It's weird, we know, and it's probably not all that effective unless no one's paying close attention, but it's a fun idea. Kind of like before it disappeared. |
